Where’s the tree remover?

Lina Nakhleh of Pondfield Road in Yonkers is furious about the downed tree at Pondfield and Chatfield, right up the hill from Lawrence
Hospital Center.

“There are lines down and dangling all over the place. No one has power,” she says.
The neighborhood hasn’t seen a police officer or Con Ed, she said.

Nakhleh called City Hall to complain and was told to call police. Police took the report but nothing’s been done as of 5 p.m.

“They have to remove the tree. It’s dangerous. I’m afraid to stay in my house. This is a major street. I want the mayor of Yonkers to do something.”

I live in the that power-free neighborhood of Cedar Knolls, just behind the fallen, hanging tree. I am surprised by the complete lack of information about when our power will be restored or that anyone is even looking into the problem. Phone calls have been un-informative. W

hen I get to work and can access the web again, there are only “Happy hard working” reports at the Con Ed site, mostly focusing on the situation in Port Chester. That is little comfort to those of us in Yonkers.

At the Westchester.gov site, nada about when we would get power back. But “Spano Calls on State to Consolidate Recent Weather Events to Ensure Fedeal Disaster Aid”, so that is a relief to the politicians I guess.

And then there was this, “In an Emergency, Let Us Contact You. Westchester County is expanding its communications system to allow the public to be contacted directly in case of a large-scale emergency. We can use email, text messaging and/or phone messages to provide information to you.”, which sounds good, except that if you have no power, it would be hard to get the news. No computer, no TV, no phone. I guess the cellphone would work for a few days.

On my little battery powered radio, I keep getting news about ice being delievered to Port Chester, and how efforts there are on going to get their powered restored. But that is not comforting to us.

It would be nice if there was a priority list of power restoration. If Port Chester is the most damaged, fine, but it be nice to know where we are on the list and when we could look forward to power. This list could be on the Westecheter website, the COn Ed website, be read by radio folks, and on TV, and even “posted” on telephone polls in power challenged neighborhoods. That would get the word out.
